Story: Venkatadri (Venkatesh) is appointed as a Bodyguard for
Keerthi(Trisha), daughter of Varadarajulu(Prakash raj) to keep a close
watch on her throughout her college days. Venky follows her wherever she
goes; getting very irritated Keerthi plans to get rid of him by trapping in
a fake love affair, she starts disturbing him over phone as ‘Bangaram’.
Venky falls in love with Bangaram without seeing her. What happens after
that?
Performances: Venky, a perfect hero for remakes, once again does a good
role and impresses well with his performance. Trisha is good. Saloni is
okay. Prakash raj, Kota, Tanikella Bharani suited to their roles. Venu
madhav, Ali did the comedy part. Cinematography and Art work are good.
Editing could have been better. Fights are well choreographed (even though
filled with wire work). Music is okay. The BGM is good. Screenplay is good.
The narration is slow. The production values are rich.
Analysis: It is a remake of the Malayalam flick Bodyguard which was remade
in Tamil (Kaavalan-Starring Vijay, Asin) and Hindi (Bodyguard-Starring
Salman, Kareena). The Hit Combination of Venkatesh and Trisha is back, the
chemistry between them is rocking. It’s a tailor made role for Venky and he
has performed it very well. His performance in the Botanical garden scene
where Trisha and Venky come over there to meet Bangaram is a highlight one.
Trisha truly showed her experience in a couple of scenes. Prakash did a
wonderful job towards the climax. Jayaprakash reddy donned a new role which
hasn’t done before. Saloni is okay. Subba raju, Kota have limited roles.
Cinematography is good. The locales in the songs looked great. Art work is
okay. Gowtham raju editing could have been put to better use; several
scenes are disjointed. Some scenes are lengthy, they should have been
crisper. Music by Thaman is Averag,e a couple of songs are okay. Another
soulful song could have helped in enhancing the second half. The Background
music is good. The story is taken from the Malayalam original and the
necessary modifications have been done to suit our nativity. The emotional
part towards the climax has come out very well. The Dialogues by Kona
Venkat are good. The Screenplay is good. There are some flaws in the story
which can be overlooked.
Gopichand Malineni has delivered a hit DON SEENU with Raviteja earlier; he
proved that he can mix the commercial elements well even for a remake. The
story lacks depth but the emotional second half covers it up. The director
could have tried for more humour in the first half as the first half
appears bit slow. The ladies hostel episode also could have been better (it
may appeal to masses). The direction is good in parts.
The movie progresses with considerably very slow pace. Humour has been used
as the basis but it has been a great finish nonetheless, with the climax
really taking the audience for a ride. The Comedy Actors Ali and Venu
madhav doesn’t have much roles but make you smile for a while. The romance
is subtle but touching and the emotional climax twist is hard hitting.
Surprisingly there is no dull moment in the 2hr 40minute run time. The film
lacks a creditable storyline, but has been packaged keeping humour as its
base, which makes it an engaging watch.
The movie surely rocks in B, C Centers. Family Audiences (ladies) like the
movie more.
This is a clean family movie that has right elements which suit to a
perfect Pongal festive season.
Plus: Performances, Venky-Trisha Chemistry, Dramatic Climax
Minus: Routine first half, Slow Narration
Verdict: Nevertheless a family entertainer, family Audience can make time
pass in this festive season...
