Mambattiyan Movie Review
Actor Prashanth had a break through with Shankar’s ‘Jeans’ followed by more consecutive hits. But by then, his wrong choice of scripts kept him away from striking gold in box office. The actor’s father Thyagarajan however tried with his earnest attempts of getting back his son to the shape.

Their previous venture together ‘Ponnar Shankar’ in which Prashanth performed dual roles didn’t work out well. Now producer Thyagarajan comes up with the remake of his yesteryear blockbuster movie ‘Mammatiyan’ titled as ‘Mambattiyan’. The film has Prashanth reprising the role enacted by his father in original version while Meera Jasmine takes on the female lead character with Mumaith Khan in another female lead character. Vadivelu takes care of comedy portions while Prakash Raj performs cop’s character with Kota Srinivasa Rao as the baddie.

Story

The film revolves around Mambattiyan (Prashanth), an ordinary youngster leading a peaceful life in the remote district of Tamil Nadu. The village is dominated by a bigwig (Kota Srinivasa Rao), far-famed for his greedy gestures and keeps torturing the innocent ones. When Mambatiyyan’s father (Vijayakumar) stands against the evil doer, he is mercilessly killed by him. Setting forth to seek revenge, Mambattiyan kills him and his men, thereby hiding into the forest. We see that bunch of men join his force and they become Robin Hood. Now the game of cat-n-mouse between Mambattiyan and a police officer Ranjith (Prakash Raj) begins.

Performances

Getting on with the performance, Prashanth does his best in doing justice to the role that was enacted by his father before years. He comes up with a good job in action sequences while Meera Jasmine walks away winning praises for her performance. Kota Srinivasa Rao sleepwalks through the role of baddie and Prakash Raj as usual keeps up his level of great performance. Mumaith Khan also gets some meaty role to perform.

Technically, the film is done with some excellent quality. Especially the score by Thamman is brilliant with the song ‘Kaatu Vazhi’ turning to be the cherry-pick. The background score has been done with panache and cinematography by Shaji is yet another asset of this movie.

Good attempt by Thyagarajan for making sure that the film not alone comes out well, but proves to be on pars with the original version.

On the whole, ‘Mambattiyan’ doesn’t carry an unusual or unique storyline, but it’s the performance by the actors that makes you sit and watch it once.

Verdict: Can watch it once
