Why do actors make a wrong choice? It’s a dream for every actor in Kollywood to perform a cop’s role. Be it a protagonist or villainous role, they desperately want themselves to be projected in ‘Khaki’ costume. Well Silambarasan didn’t want to be an exception and has chosen the role at the early stage of his career. Maybe, for few actors, it was a well-tailored role, but for STR it turns out to be ludicrous.
Watching him walk in cop’s uniform, with Ray Ban glasses (24x7) and jump across the building roofs and ground leaves us annoyed during many portions. In fact, Silambarasan becomes a major spoiler for the remake. If Dharani had opted for any other actor like Vijay, Vikram, Ajith Kumar, etc, etc with matured looks to play the role, it would have been sure victory.
But for now ‘Osthe’ becomes a disappointment even for Silambarasan fans as it doesn’t capture our interests during any point of the film.
The film is set in Kaatupaalayam with the story revolving around the family of Osthe Velan (Silambarasan), his mother (Revathi), step-father (Nasser) and step-brother (Jithan Ramesh). Velan works in a different pattern of crook and honest by looting the money of Boxer Daniel (Sonu Sood), once a roughneck and now aspiring to become a politician that is meant for the distribution to people seeking vote. This indeed becomes a major clash between Velan and Daniel leading to some twists and turns in the plot with a predictable climax.
Nothing surprises the audiences for they become capable of predicting the events on what’s gonna happen. Silambarasan acts as though a college student and there is no maturity in his performance. Richa Gangopadhyay made a spellbinding performance in ‘Mayakkam Enna’, but this one is a mere disappointment. Jithan Ramesh is okay. Sonu Sood is stupendous with his villainous performance. Nasser, Nizhalgal Ravi, Vijayakumar, VTV Ganesh have done justice to their roles. Saranya Mohan doesn’t get scope.
Thamman’s musical score is good with couple of songs ‘Kalasala’ and ‘Neduvaali’ becoming big treats for the audiences.
On the whole, ‘Osthe’ is an average fare and has nothing special to watch out for.
Verdict: Worth watching
