London, Dec 10: UK Communities’ Secretary Eric Pickles is reviewing the law, which permits people to unfurl only certain type of flags.
The move comes after Norwich City fan Matthew Houchen was asked to pay a 2,500 pound fine for unfurling a football club’s flag with the team''s badge in his garden.
Pickles, who will announce the changes in the law on December 12, said the new law would benefit not only football fans, but all UK citizens.
"If people want to celebrate something that''s important to them by flying a flag they should be able to do so," The Sun quoted Pickles, as saying.
Under current rules, only few flags, including the national flags of UK countries, the Union Flag and the EU flag, can be flown without permission.
The rest of the flags require prior consent before they can be flown.
