Diamond Harbour (West Bengal), Dec 16 (IANS) The illegal country liquor dens in West Bengal's Sangrampur which sold spurious liquor that claimed almost 150 lives were located close to a police camp, said locals.

"There is a police camp nearby, a minute from the shanties," said Sahadat Hossain, a local teacher.

The liquor was sold from over a dozen shanties near Sangrampur railway station in the village with the same name of South 24 Parganas district..

At least 148 people died and around 100 were still hospitalised after drinking spurious liquor in the shanties at Sangrampur.
